Class 8 truck sales in the United States in October increased 1.5 percent over September, but the bigger news is that October 2017 sales bested October 2016 sales by 31.6 percent.

October 2017 sales reached 17,928 compared with 17,667 the month prior, according to data provided by WardsAuto, which tracks automotive sales in the U.S.

Wards reported October 2016 sales at only 13,618.

Total sales in 2017 lag behind 2016 year-to-date sales by 6.6 percent, but with good sales in November and December, total 2017 sales could come close to last year’s total of 192,663 as both ACT Research and FTR reported strong order numbers for October.

Four of the seven OEM nameplates record increases in October over September, topped by International, which showed a 40.4 percent increase.

The closest to International was Peterbilt at 18.1 percent.
