DANE COUNTY, Wis. — No one was injured Wednesday when an 18-wheeler struck a Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) cruiser along Interstate 94.

According to a WSP Facebook post, two WSP cruisers were engaged in a traffic stop, both with emergency lights activated, when a semi failed to move over and sideswiped one of the units.

The trooper of the damaged unit was in the driver’s seat at the time but was not injured, the post stated.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation.

Trucker probably couldn’t move over, because people in the left lane do not want to give road courtesy. Also, if trooper was parked at a curve in the road, trucker couldn’t see him until it was too late. Troopers car must have also been sticking out in the roadway.

Because you can’t mover over you still are required to slow below speed limit and maintain your lane. There is no excuse for this short of mechanical failure

Absolutely true. There was NO excuse for this incident. It was no accident. All the excuses provided by Christy are unfortunately trash talk. The driver of the semi is at fault. Whether it was inattentive/distracted driving or I just don’t give a darn attitude, this driver did not follow the law or have the common courtesy to move over. Yes, Madison and Dane county traffic can be heavy at times, but at 1:30 PM on a Wednesday on a 3 or 4 lane section of interstate roadway, the driver had better be able to prove as mentioned mechanical failure, a medical emergency, or another truck pushing him over and into the squad vehicles.
Boil it down and I see an attitude of total disregard and negligence. Book ’em, Danno!

That may be true but I assure you I have seen plenty of cases where truckers had plenty of room to move over and did not so unless we were there to actually see it we just really do not know.

trailer could have dog tracking and it seems he the driver did slow.. let’s just thank GOD no one was seriously injured.. yes we have to move over for our peace officers..
But hey we don’t know exactly what happened..
Once again thank GOD no one was seriously injured

I’ll wait for the investigation to be concluded before I comment on this one. I’m sure people are holding their breath and giddy with excitement and anticipation.
