CALERA, Okla. — Citizen-soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment of the Oklahoma National Guard supported the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in Durant Thursday by stabilizing a semi-truck that slid off of U.S. 75/69 in Calera and preventing it from rolling over.
The truck driver was not injured.

Thank you to the Oklahoma National Guardsmen Guardsmen who worked so hard to help the Trucker and all those stranded on the roads. I no longer drive down towards Oklahoma, but I can remember plenty of times when it was terrible in the winter.
I drove across Ohio and Indiana this week on Wednesday. I was held up in Struthers, Ohio Tuesday evening waiting to get loaded. On Wednesday I was finally loaded just before noon. It started to rain as I approached Lordstown. It was warm until Perrysburg, Ohio. Then the temperatures dropped and so did my speed. Every once in a while a car or CMV would go by me doing the posted speeds. I made a mental note of the trucks knowing that they were already destined for the picker patch. As I continued west I came across 4 of them either tipped over or 150+ feet off the road. The conditions called for 40-50 mph and every over head sign was telling drivers to slowdown. After nearly 30 years of over the road driving, it doesn’t take a sign to tell me, “Haste makes waste!” Drive safe , remember patience is a virtue, and when it gets bad enough, park the rig. It might be their load, but it is your health and life, not the dispatcher’s or consignee. If this advice bothers you, I’ll wave at you when I go by.
