TIFTON, Ga. – A Georgia community’s police department set off a social media firestorm recently by reminding people that it is illegal to park semi-trucks in residential areas there.
The Tifton, Georgia, Police Department, in a Feb. 27 Facebook post, quoted City Code Section 78-33, which states that big rigs are prohibited from being parked in residential yards temporarily or overnight and must travel within designated areas.
“No truck or trailer shall be parked off the designated truck routes or left overnight,” according to the code.
The post has received nearly 400 comments, most of them accusing the community of being anti-trucking.
“Sounds like the town of Tifton needs to do without anything brought by truck for a while until they back off this stupid crap,” Facebook user Pearlie Acker-Alsept commented.
User Alicia Nolton wrote: “Are you friggen kidding me!? Leave the driver alone parking on their own property! Sometimes drivers only get 10 hours at home in between rubs and you’re gonna harass them for parking in their own driveway!? Your entire system is jacked up!”
“Nothing but an inconvenience to hard working truck drivers and their families,” user Joy Alyson Woods Brinson wrote. “Great way to show respect for the ones who deliver most of the goods people need and want. Just another reason for people to keep moving out of city limits and into the county.”
While the law isn’t new, the police department told a local television news station that they have received multiple complaints about truckers who were violating the code.
Fines are “not to exceed $1,000.00 and imprisonment in the city or county jail not exceeding 180 days, or both a fine and sentence of imprisonment and labor; and all sentences may be in the alternative and fines may be imposed with the alternative of sentence to imprisonment and labor if the fines are not paid,” according to city code.

Since most truck drivers in Georgia are black its easy to see whats really going on.
We get no love everywhere. Juat think if we all sent a message. And parked these trucks for 2 months in solidarity. This country would crap its pants. We got to send a message. Bc no one believes we are more important than the hospital. We have no parking places never home truck stop food is death in a bag. No ones cares bout us.
Truth
Excalty I drive through Georgia alot and that’s all I see and it’s no parking in Georgia. Bad traffic and ppl drive like nasscar drivers no respect for truckers
Georgia is turning into another California. Don’t park here or don’t park there. Maybe we should just boycott these states that prohibit us from parking. We boycotted Connecticut for a week when the governor said he didn’t need trucks in the state. He regretted that after one week of boycotting. Time we as American citizens stood up and let our voices be heard. Butt face in Washington doesn’t give a rats ass about our issues.
WAKE UP TRUCKERS AND RAISE YOUR VOICES.
These states may need to look at a public transportation system going into the big cities. These folks can all have a big share ride system to and from a location out of the city and go home from there. If you live downtown then walk. Looking at some of those Atlantians they should probably walk more anyway. Leave us alone, the sheer life we have to endure being alone is tough enough.
I remember a couple of years ago when the city council of Story City, Iowa rejected an application for Love’s Travel Centers wanting to build a store there. They said it would draw prostitution into their beloved city. They missed out on a lot of tax dollars and a needed business that would support their industries.
Love’s moved their new store plans up the road and out of that county. Then the people recalled or voted out the city council members who voted for the ban. Today a Kwik Star store sits just off of I-35 in Story City, Iowa. But I refuse to stop there. Once insulted by a community or a business, I never forget and never return or spend a penny there. Why should I reward them for bad behavior and insults. And I haven’t seen one lot lizard roaming the parking at the Love’s Travel Center. I guess the girls and daughters from Story City are too busy servicing the men in Story City who claimed to know so much about truck drivers.
These stupid fucking political assholes have never even opened the door to a semi truck and are making these laws. Most truckers are out of hours and we have no choice but to shut it down or face a huge fine from dot or state police. But what really pisses me off is they expect you to be on time and rested for your pick-ups and delivery’s and alot of customers have been putting up signs that truckers can’t leave their trucks and no restroom for truckers. Nice
Deliveries to Tifton should be made to a location in a nearby town with instructions to the people in Tifton where to go to pick up their stuff.
I have been out here 42 years. I have felt for years that we should have a nation wide shut down for two weeks. No food no medical supplies no gas to the stations. Shut down everything that is delivered on trucks. But it will never happen because it is horay for me and to hell with you. So we will continue to eat shit and have no say in the problems we face. Keep on trucking brothers and sisters. It is a problem that will never be solved
I love our truckers BUT the owner knew before he( or she) bought the truck that he/she would need to have a place to park it, and a residential area is simply not a place to park it. It’s an eyesore that could potentially bring down property values. I support the law.
Bartow county trucks have been parking on off and on ramps for 20 plus years and the police do nothing but drive pass them but they would ticket my car and any other car parked in the same spot. It lowers my property value but no one cares until you start a lawsuit against the law and the trucking industry. Do I hear class action lawsuit? I think I will start one.
